13 of the Biggest Faith Stories You Won't Want to Miss: A New 'Left Behind' Movie, Abortion, Violence — and Hope Amid the Chaos
So, exciting news — I’m officially back in the CBN News/Faithwire family. A few weeks back, I rejoined the team as a digital host and writer. So, I’ll be hosting, chatting and writing a great deal.
Plus, each week, I’ll recap the best faith and culture stories of the week. Here’s the first edition:
First off, I caught up with my friend Kevin Sorbo to discuss the new “Left Behind” film (he’s directing and starring). There’s video and a write-up that breaks it all down here.
“I love movies that have hope, redemption, laughter, and love, and things that we need more than ever in this world — in this crazy, divisive world we live in,” Sorbo said. “And we’re hoping a movie like this will be a positive impact on people around the world.”
On another note, ex-porn star Joshua Broome, who wanted to die and struggled emotionally after years in the adult film industry, is now a pastor and hope-dealer on a mission to help people escape the grips of pornography. He’s got a new podcast discussing faith and culture — and his story is just insanely amazing.
Honestly, this next story is remarkable. When you see the photos of this car crash, you’ll see why people are certain this woman was protected by God.
Oh, and in this next story you’ll see the amazing and creative ways 100,000 Bibles are being delivered to persecuted believers around the globe.
On the free speech front, there are some really interesting things happening with Richard Dawkins. The atheist activist — who often riles Christians — has actually found himself sharing some interesting middle ground (and not everyone is happy about it).
On a more uplifting note, Bible Gateway just released a fascinating report, offering “a glimpse at how people engaged with the Bible in 2021.” Turns out a ton of people were searching for “sorcery” (among other terms). And, as always, John 3:16 was the most popular verse!
Now, if you’re looking for some simple inspiration, check out the kind deed this guy spent his Thanksgiving doing. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make the biggest impact.
This next story is a bit heavier, but with the Supreme Court’s weighing in again on abortion, it seems there’s another underlying battle getting little attention – and it surrounds the abortion pill. Here’s an explainer, if you’re interested in the issue. Two related stories: one pro-life advocate explains why a 15-week ban isn’t necessarily a victory, in her view (that’s what the court is weighing).
And another woman who survived an abortion (yes, when she was in the womb) explains why she believes her life is a “miracle.”
Plus, are guns the problem (or is it the heart)? We explore:
Moving on to Christmas, I explore a key question: Is this Middle Eastern church the location where Jesus was actually born?
Now, I want to end on an incredibly positive note; this heartbreaking yet inspirational story is convicting and powerful. The widow and congregants of a pastor killed by a drunk driver openly forgave the man during his sentencing.
“As hard as it was at first, we want you to know that we have been praying for you for the past year, because we know your life has been impacted by the biggest mistake of your life,” the pastor’s daughter proclaimed.
And that wraps this week’s Faith Beat! See you soon.
