Christian College Student's Stoning, Anne Wilson and Dog the Bounty Hunter Interviews: 10 of the Biggest Faith Stories of the Week
Don't miss these must-read stories.
A lot is happening in the world, so let’s dive right into some of the most important headlines of the past week:
First and foremost, I spoke with Christian Solidarity International about a truly horrific story. Deborah Emmanuel Yakubu, a college student in Sokoto, Nigeria, was brutally stoned and burned to death on May 12. The violent attack was purportedly filmed and shared on social media and was based on her faith.
I also sat down with Christian singer Anne Wilson to discuss how her brother’s tragic death — and funeral — led her to realize music was the plan God had for her.
“That was kind of the moment that started everything for me and the moment that I realized music was what I was supposed to do with my life,” she said. Listen to (and read) her story.
And while we’re on the subject of powerful testimonies, “All That” star Kel Mitchell shared his incredible path to faith, including the ups, downs, and how he overcame suicidal thoughts.
“I was just kind of like, ‘I want to [hit] the off button,” he said of his past emotional struggles. “When I decided not to take my life at that point, and I decided to live, that’s when things changed around for me.”
Another surprising story surrounds actor Chad Michael Murray, who shared with Fox News recently how he starts every day with the Bible (and does the same with his kids).
OK, now let’s dive into some of the other positive headlines we’re seeing unfold. First, there's a family who responded to a thief by leaving a Bible out and inviting him back to grab it.
“If you see this and would like to return what you took from us, there will be no questions asked,” Jennifer Collier wrote in a Facebook post.
Then there’s the incredible story of a woman who saved a victim from potential abduction — and it’s all captured on camera.
And the good Samaritanism didn’t end there, as another guy saw smoke coming from a Massachusetts home and pounded on the door, saving the family inside just in time.
But my ultimate favorite good news story of the week surrounded a Florida woman who lost consciousness and saw her car drift into a busy intersection. That’s when good Samaritans fled into traffic to save her life.
The positive conclusion is a major praise!
I also met a mom who suffered a stillbirth. And while Ashley Opliger had a crisis of faith, the terrible experience ended up sparking a significant quest to help families facing similar struggles. Bridget’s Cradles, her nonprofit, provides tiny cradles for families facing stillbirths.
“I left my job. We started the non-profit in her empty nursery,” Opliger told me. “And now we have donated to over 1,200 hospitals in all 50 states, and [we’re] continuing to grow.”
Plus, you don’t want to miss Jeannie Ortega Law’s escape from the occult and into Christianity (speaking of the occult, McDonald’s is into some strange things these days).
Finally, we’ll conclude with my chat with Dog the Bounty Hunter. It was a fascinating chat about his time in prison, his decision to hunt criminals — and his take on faith.
